About the firm

This firm is one of the Waikato's top law firms, with a solid foundation and forward-thinking leadership. Their aim has always been to be the first choice for legal service providing to the community. Whilst being largely known for their culture, their real value is their technical delivery.

Their office is in Hamilton's CBD and they are looking for a talented junior Solicitor to join their growing firm.

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to advance your career by working alongside some of Hamilton's most respected Employment and Workplace lawyers. You will be part of a fast-moving, supportive team, doing advisory work and appearing in court at all levels, gaining sound experience in high-profile matters. You will be representing a range of clients from private individuals on personal grievances and dismissals to larger corporate clients in more contentious and litigious matters.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Sound academic achievements and records
  • 1–3 years of specific Employment experience (from private practice, clerking, or the public sector);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Courtroom advocacy abilities and desire to grow in this area; and
  • A talent for building relationships and earning client trust.

They value team fit as highly as technical ability. To thrive in this role, you will need to bring a positive, professional, and approachable attitude to the team. Whilst previous experience in this practice area is preferable, it is not essential and we encourage lawyers with a desire to practice in Employment to reach out.

About the location

Hamilton is one of New Zealand's oldest cities and is an inland area in the North Island of New Zealand. Located on the banks of the Waikato River, it is the seat and most populous city of the Waikato region. With a territorial population of 192,000, it is the country's fourth most-populous city. It is also home to the Hamilton Gardens, a sprawling public park that features elaborate themed gardens ranging from Italian Renaissance to Japanese and traditional Maori styles. The Waikato Museum displays Maori art and artefacts and next door, ArtsPost gallery focuses on local art. In the busy city centre, Victoria Street is lined with restaurants, cafes and bars and the region is home to the mighty Waikato Chiefs, a former Super Rugby champion team and multiple New Zealand representative players and coaches for both the men's and women's game.
